Scoot Commute

Sweet Revenge

Posted in Buddy St. Tropez (Franz Biberkopf), Daily Commute by sbahn on 2012/04/02

Revenge is a harsh word because the guy didn’t do anything to me, but it made my heart happy. I’m a terrible, awful person.

Riding home this evening, I’m stopped at the Eagle/Atwells/Harris Ave light, the infamous five points intersection. There are left-turn only arrows that turn to red when traffic going straight gets a green. But lots of folks ignore the red arrow and make lefts in front of oncoming traffic because they don’t want to wait. It’s dangerous and obnoxious but that’s what commuting is all about.

Well tonight, I’m sitting in my left turn lane, waiting for green when I see an SUV (what a surprise, and yes, I’m biased) creep into the intersection against his signal. He waits and waits as traffic races up Atwells (into the city).  I see a Providence police car come up behind him, and then finally an oncoming car slows to let the left-turner go.

Being the cynic that I am, I figured the cop needed to make a left and was just going to haul through the light. But, joy oh joy, he blipped his lights and pulled the guy over. I know, I’m evil, but finally, finally, I got to see someone blatantly violating right-of-way get pulled over by a cop. I don’t even care if he got a ticket; it was just fun to see someone get called out for being a jerk.

So a big ‘thank you’ to the Providence officer who brought a smile to my face this evening.
